Africa Unanimously Backs Infantino for a New Term as FIFA President (2027-2031)

Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football, held an important meeting with the representatives of the 54 associations affiliated to CAF on Wednesday 29 April 2026 in Vancouver, on the eve of the 76th edition of the FIFA Congress.
During the meeting, the African associations unanimously expressed their full support for the re-election of Gianni Infantino as FIFA president for a new term running from 2027 to 2031, a clear confirmation of the continent's confidence in his leadership and his vision for developing football worldwide.
This decision comes amid the growing relationship between CAF and FIFA, with both bodies seeking to strengthen the presence of African football on the international stage by supporting infrastructure projects, developing competitions and raising the level of competitiveness across the continent.
This African consensus also reflects a strong desire for continuity and stability within the world's top football body, particularly amid the shifts taking place in international football and the challenges tied to broadening participation and developing the game around the world.
