Eliesse Ben Seghir, the Morocco national team football player, has issued an official statement on social media in response to what happened over the weekend, stressing that he meant no offense with his recent gesture.
Ben Seghir said: "I wanted to address quickly what happened on social media. I am fully aware that my action may have upset some people; it was just a spontaneous reaction toward someone I know well, without any real intention. As soon as I realized it, I immediately removed the like."
Ben Seghir added: "Above all, I am Moroccan and I deeply love my country, and I am proud to represent the national team that I chose from a young age. I offer my sincere apologies to all the fans, and I hope to be able to return to the pitch soon and win back your trust."
