Official: Kenya Football Federation President Suspended Over Suspected Embezzlement of 42 Million Shillings

The executive committee of the Kenya Football Federation announced on Friday the temporary suspension of its president, Hussein Mohamed, from his duties, amid accusations of financial mismanagement, including the embezzlement of an estimated 42 million Kenyan shillings that had been earmarked for organizing the African Nations Championship for local-based players.
The decision also required both executive committee member Abdallah Youssef Ibrahim and acting executive director Denis Gichuru to step aside from their duties until the ongoing investigations are completed.
In the same vein, the committee decided to appoint vice-president McDonald Mariga as acting president to lead the federation during this transitional phase, pending the results of the investigations and the anticipated financial audit.
It was also decided to freeze all bank accounts linked to the suspended president, in order to preserve evidence and prevent any potential interference with the course of the investigations, in addition to appointing an independent financial auditor to examine the various financial resources received by the federation, whether from the Confederation of African Football, the International Federation, or the Ministry of Sports.
The executive committee affirmed that these measures come as part of an effort to enhance transparency, restore public confidence, and ensure the integrity of football governance in Kenya.
